Episode 123 – Donnie Boivin
Welcome to another episode of The HERO Show. I am your host Richard Matthews, (@AKATheAlchemist) and you are listening to Episode 123 with Donnie Boivin — Learn How to Be a Success Champion in Sales, Business, & Life.
Donnie is an award-winning professional sales trainer, a top-200 iTunes Podcaster, Marine Corp veteran, and the owner of Success Champions. Get ready for one badass Hero Show episode today with Donnie Boivin.
Here’s just a taste of what we talked about today:
- Donnie tells us how he came to work in sales after coming home from serving the Marine Corps.
- Donnie would go on to buy out his business partner and talk about his greatest struggle in transitioning from being a sales employee to a business owner.
- Next, we discuss the importance of asking better questions as a business owner and the shift in mindset needed to succeed in business.
- Delegation tips and tricks by Donnie on the importance of hiring the right people for specific tasks in your business.
- Shifting from short-term contract clients to long-term profitable relationships with clients.
- Donnie shares a client board type of business model — a perpetual wheel of business upscaling where you allow your clients to do most of the heavy lighting and you do not have to break your back.
- How you see yourself is projected in everything you do. That is why Donnie makes it a point to flip the switch in his clients and convince them that what they do is ready for the market and badass — that they themselves are badass.
- People will show up once you align yourself with who you really are. Be your authentic self.
- And then, we talk about the differences between Corporate America and the Entrepreneurship/Business Owner World.
- Success may look very different for each person. For Donnie, people are all just trying to get to a place where they can make their own decisions, make their own calls, do whatever they want to do and be beholden to nobody.
- The more that you show up authentically representing your geekiness, the easier your own people show up.
- People are trying to reach others across the world and want to sell everybody with a heartbeat. But if they would just focus on the people that geek out the same way they do, then it will absolutely transform and change their business.
- Podcasting is one of the most unique mediums on the face of the earth because people choose to listen to podcasts. People literally have to go to something, turn it on, and say, “I want to listen to this.”
- Donnie shares a few examples of effectively using a pattern interrupt to help you get to your desired outcome.
- A lifetime friend will spend a lot more money with you over the years than a one-time transaction. It’s not that people don’t want to buy from you, it’s just you do not know how to communicate with the individual and make a relationship with them.
- Donnie says, “If you just focus on your fucking strengths and the things you’re brilliant at and then hire people to do the shit you suck at, then life gets really, really, really simple. Because you can stay focused on your zone of genius or your strengths.
- A business owner can outsource a lot of things in their business but it is very important to never outsource the final sales conversation. Donnie dives deeper into the reasons why.
- Donnie shares that in his experience, 95% of sales people are not money-driven. As the business owner, it is your job to know what drives your people and work together on helping them get to their goals.
- Life is not about how hard a person can hit. It’s about how hard a person can take a hit and still keep moving forward. For Donnie, that’s how winning is done.
- We talk about what it is like to be married to an entrepreneur.
- Telling stories make us human and the depth of a relationship is all judged on how much of someone else’s story we know. For business owners, creating content and showing up to talk about what they do is important. We need to share our story with the world so they know who we are. This is how we build relationships with people we have never met before.

The HERO Challenge
Today on the show, Donnie Boivin challenged Stacey McGovern, Nikole Dickman, and Sammy Blindell.
Stacey is the CEO of Point Blank Safety Services. She is a wife of a police officer who got tired of struggling to make ends meet. She now runs a multi-million dollar corporation who employs over 200 active-duty police officers to protect the Texas state highways and freeways. According to Donnie, Stacey’s story is a brilliant one.
Next, Nikole is the CEO of Envoy Managed Services, LLC. Nikole used to work for a very large company and has teams under her management. The company she was working for made a pivot and shift that was about to let go of her teams. The company’s plan was for her team members to be spread out to different companies.
So, Nikole gathered her team members. She told her that they were all going to get severance packages and be going their separate ways. But she offered them something else. What if they went back together and still do the same job but they become a separate company?
Nikole pitched the company and now, she works mostly with the same people who run a multi-million dollar corporation.
And last but not least, Sammy Blindell is the founder of the One Drop Movement. Sammy built a branding agency that is equivalent to 11 million US Dollars.
This drove her health to the limit. So, she sold that company for $1.30 and it saved her life. She has since gone on to build several other multi-million dollar companies.
